Parasite (Official Music Video) is about the subconscious, unsettling allure of self-destruction within us all. The parasite is the darkness inside that tells us to numb the pain, to self-medicate, to run full speed toward instant gratification. This song is about the daily battle we wage inside ourselves against dissociation, addiction, and the forces of annihilation.
Congrats on exploring new artistic territory, how did it feel for you going down this road?
It was actually super fun to channel some angry energy into a project. So much of my music is more chill, sexy, and dark rather than energetic and angry. I felt this was the first time I could wear certain clothes, dance, and thrash around on set. It felt refreshing to do something new.
How long did this project take and what did it entail?
The song itself didn’t take too long as I wrote and recorded it in one night as an experiment, then sent it over to AWAY to work on who then completed it with Crywolf. The video took about a month to finish. I came up with most of the concept with help from Crywolf, and then we executed it shortly after. The video crew was super small and we all had 20 jobs each on set, it was exhausting and we were filming most nights until 6am. Editing this was absolutely insane too. I’ve been editing for a long time now but this was definitely the most intensive edit I’ve done because I wanted to make it extremely glitchy and trippy. The goal for this was “void porn / psychedelic nightmare”. The edit took around 3 weeks of editing almost every day, just because there was so much footage to go through, and I just kept wanting to go a level harder and deeper with the edit.
We hope more people will get exposed to your musical wonder, do you feel this will hit a new audience for you?
I sure hope so! I’ve never had a video reach so many people so quickly, so that seems like a good sign. My theory is that even if people don’t latch onto my work right away, at least they have now heard of me, so if they see me around again they might have that “oh I’ve heard of her” moment and finally check out my work.
