For the past seven years, the Heathen Apostles have become known for their energetic and explosive live performances, bringing their unique blend of bluegrass, Gypsy jazz, goth and country (better known as Bloodgrass) to venues on familiar soil as well as abroad. 2020 was to see the Heathens once again touring: first, a stripped down duo West Coast tour to be followed by a third European three week tour. Sadly, then came COVID-19, and the band watched as the dominoes fell. First, the lockdown. Then, the West Coast tour. Finally, the European tour slipped away.
It is with this in mind that the Heathens decided to record a special live performance, filmed at their home and headquarters, the Devil’s Doghouse. The result is PRAYERS BEFORE THE PLAGUE- an EP of six of their favorites from the set, raw and filled with the emotions that can only come from performing live. It is the band’s gift to a world almost entirely without live music for the majority of a year. It is also a reminder of the importance of music itself, whether it be hard times or good. Music and the arts must live on and survive through it all. PRAYERS FOR THE PLAGUE is out now on Ratchet Blade Records.
