Post Punk group Corlyx lead by vocalist Caitlin Stokes and musician Brandon Ashley, just released their new music video White Wolf from most recent album Together Apart. Directed by Myles Fearnley it treads on a dreamscape fairy tale where the hunter becomes the hunted. Shot in the haunting English woods, White Wolf begins with a innocent portrayal of vocalist Caitlin, but it slowly takes a deceptive turn. Their love of 90’s Industrial Rock, Grunge and modern Electronica is ever so present with grinding baselines and brilliant guitar works.
Interview Meikee Magnetic
You stated that White Wolf is your favorite track among your new release, I can understand why but would like to hear why in your own words:
After we recorded this song I think I listened to it non stop while going on walks during lock down, it was such a mood, it felt so amazing to be a fan of my own song this much. It’s never happened to me this way before, there’s definitely more on the album I feel this way about but there’s something really special about White Wolf. It’s probably the bass line and that Wolf howl!
Tell us about your new live video premieres on Facebook and why you’ve been doing it that way?
I just starting going live a lot more often and I think it’s so much more personal and I want to get to know people on my feed that are fans. Everyone’s been so supportive so it’s a nice way to interact, I’m actually totally fine speaking with strangers and I hope to actually meet people IRL when we tour more next year.
What is that new change in your sound, are you working in a new studio?
We had a minor studio upgrade that’s definitely part of it. There was also a massive learning process we went through starting out as singer songwriters and taught ourselves how to produce. Brandon Ashley my co-band mate taught himself how to mix/master so now we’re just at a point where we put in so much time and effort that it’s paying off. We’re working with other artists too doing artist development, production, mixes and mastering. Our studio is called Dtuned Brighton Productions if anyone out there is interested in working with us.
Do you see a Goth revival happening right now?
I absolutely do! There’s so many amazing bands making major waves in the last 5 years I’d say. She Past Away is definitely one of my favorite new goth bands and when I say Goth I mean like the classic 80’s Post-Punk sound that defined this culture and influenced so many artists including myself. Bauhaus and Siouxsie were some of the first records I ever bought, total icons and I was lucky enough to have a cool mom that turned me onto these bands when I was very young. I think the 80’s and early 90’s are very much back in, I’m excited to be a part of that in some way.
Are you rehearsing with a full live band and is Brandon playing bass?
We are, we have a full band for the very first time not to mention a pro line up as well. I was lucky enough to nail down a pretty well known guitarist to join us on stage. I got the drummer from The Dark and of course now Brandon’s on bass. He’s loving the change from guitar to bass and definitely having a lot of fun with the rhythm section. I still have my Keytar of course.
As far as future live performances can we expect something soon?
Yes I have a live stream show coming up for Temple Festival. I’ll post it everywhere naturally but if you come find me on twitch that’s even better. We also have a socially distant gig in London at Reptile Club October 10th but I think it’s almost sold out, I will try to film it though. Twitch: corlyx_official
