Canadian-born twin brothers, Kyle and Myles Mendes create a unique hybrid of electronic rock with a nod to 80’s-influenced dream-pop, outfitting their sound with dueling harmonies. Their pulsing dance beats fuels the bands energetic live performances across North America. They fully embraced the idea of a more live sound, departing slightly from the programmed essence of their previous album Reborn, when recruiting drummer, Phil Helms.
Interview Meikee Magnetic
Where were you born and where are you now?
Born in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada, Currently living in Dallas and Denton, TX.
Five words to describe your sound:
Blue, Harmonic, Pop, Dance and Dreamy.
Tell us what you’ve been working on lately:
We’re working on putting together some special shows for our upcoming Texas tour and a national tour in the fall.
What are the musical advantages being twin brothers?
We’re cut from the same cloth, which means making music, harmonies, and beats is very fluid. We share the same visions and dreams, and are still trying to learn how to communicate telepathically.
If you could teleport back to the 80’s and meet anyone, who would that be?
Tim Burton, we know he’s still alive but the worlds he created in that decade shaped our creative minds as kids. I think it would be cool to have met him working on some of his early concepts of Batman. Who knows, maybe we will meet him someday.
Future plans:
Creatively, Kyle and I are in a totally different state of mind than what we are about to release. We’re always writing and producing, so we have a ton of new ideas and material that we can’t wait to explore and develop more.
What does Dark Beauty mean to you?
To us Dark Beauty is breaking the social norms of style and expression. Through Dark Beauty, artists can reveal their creative nature and explore new boundaries of fashion, music and photography.
