Interview Meikee Magnetic
Where were you born and where are you now?
Kris was born and raised in Fort Worth her whole life. Danni grew up living in Fort Worth, and other surrounding cities. Kris is now in Dallas and Danni is in Euless (between Ft Worth & Dallas).
We’re excited to share your new music video ‘ALL NIGHT’, tell us a little bit about it:
It’s our first music video for Prizm, for our song “All Night”! Recorded all in the cities of Fort Worth and Dallas, we love showing off our hometown. We loved getting to dance to our music with our friends and have a great time, and that’s what the video is all about!
I like your description POPWAVE, it definitely stands out in the Synthwave world. What is about the retro sound and vibe that you fell in love with?
We grew up listening to retro music from the 70s/80s and I think like most people into the genre, the nostalgia of the sound is captivating. We like to use that nostalgia but we also love to implement newer sounds and grooves that make it more of a pop feel, which is why POPWAVE as a genre is more fitting.
As the Synthwave scene grows around the world from San Francisco to New York and beyond, are you finding it easier to book live shows?
We’ve actually received a lot of show offers that started the day we released our project. We want every performance to be an exclusive experience so fans can really feel the impact of our music. We’ve been selective but the shows we’ve played have been incredible! A tour right now would be super sweet.
Are there any events your interested in performing at?
Right now we are most excited to perform at Fortress Fest right here in Fort Worth and we would also love to tour someday soon. We would love to see more retro pop acts (us included) break into the major festival circuit (Bonnaroo, Coachella, etc). If that starts to happen then that could open up the genre to the mainstream and take it to a whole new level.
How do you think you stand apart from the other Synthwave acts out there?
Heavily incorporating pop elements to our synth sounds and having two lead vocalists who harmonize together.
Who would be your top five 80’s groups?
1. Depeche Mode
2. Whitney Houston
Describe your personal style:
I would say we are pretty rock star with a touch of modern/girly/retro. We love to play around with style and can honestly be style chameleons because we like so many different types of clothing.
Any future plans you can share with us?
You can expect a lot of new music from us. We’re also playing Fortress Festival this year alongside Diplo, Miguel, and some other amazing artists.
What does Dark Beauty mean to you?
A wild, mysterious force of unapologetic edge and positivity.
