Los Angeles based Recording-artist, Neaks is a musician and artist ahead of his time. The LA-based rapper/singer/song-writer, Neaks sets the tone for the Alternative Hip-Hop scene in 2020 with a track that bleeds passion. Over a hype beat produced by Bakery Beats, Neaks and younger brother Kye Hefner, put their voices to good use on Neaks’ new single “Fallen,” a story of celebration through struggle that we can all relate to. “Do you got what it takes? Can you wear the hat bro? Sold shirts on the street, just to eat, we was mad broke.” The very first line of the first verse foreshadows the struggle and later success of Neaks’ clothing line, Tastemaker Collective, which initially gained notoriety by Kylie Jenner wearing their ‘DAD’ hat on the Kardashian show in 2015. Then would later land on celebs like Chris Brown, Anderson Paak and Young Thug.
Interview Meikee Magnetic
Where were you born and where are you now?
I was born in Wisconsin, grew up in Washington state and now live in LA.
Tell us a bit about your past and how you got started in the music world:
My Dad was a breakdancer/DJ in the 80s so our household was full of music and dancing growing up. I joined my first break dance crew in the 9th grade and started beat boxing around the same time. Years later I started teaching popping and hip-hop in dance studios. While opening for acts like Tyga, LMFAO, The Far East Movement and Chris Young as a solo dancer, I would also discover my love for writing music. Being around so many musicians all the time really opened me up to the world of songwriting and taught me the process of creating a song. It wasn’t long before I started writing my own songs. Two years later, I found my self on America’s Got Talent performing inn front of a couple thousand people. That night I realized music would be my life long love. After being chosen as one of the judge’s favorites in Vegas and being cut the following day, I began taking music ever more seriously. I’ve now performed at over 50 venues worldwide and in a way I’m just at the beginning of my music career.
We saw you performed live with our friends BOSA, how was that night for you?
It was a night of exotic music, wild dancing and college kids in the audience buying me way too many drinks.
You mentioned your a founding member of Tastemaker Collective, give us some deets:

This brand is all about making positive impacts on the youth culture. Look out for our 5th collection dropping later on this year.
Other than music, what are your other passions?
Dance, Visual Arts and being a Dad to a beautiful little girl.
What would you like to accomplish in the next 2 years?
I would like to make the billboard charts, start touring internationally, reach over 1M streams and start art a philanthropic sector of my business to combat the effects of Global Warming, Deforestation and impoverished communities.
