German alternative-Gothic rockers MONO INC have announced their eleventh studio album ‘The Book Of Fire‘, delivering a saga of blazing flames, rigorous persecution and bloody torture. They are previewing the first singles ‘Louder Than Hell’ and ‘The Book of Fire’. This sound phenomenon of this long-play takes you to a time of burning stakes. A time when knowledge gained over centuries was systematically erased. A time of the inquisition.

Where are you from and where are you now?
We are based in Hamburg and after being in Asia until the start of the year we’re currently back in Hamburg to prepare the upcoming “The Book Of Fire” tour. Since the dimensions of the venues have reached a certain level, the preparations do take quite a while. This is going to be quite an exciting new show!
Your video ’Louder Than Hell’ is like a mini-movie, what do you remember on set during filming that stands out for you?
I remember that it was an exciting but yet a quite exhausting shoot. Three days and nights without more than a couple of hours sleep but after all we’re very happy with the results.
Please tell us about your new album ‘The Book Of Fire’ and the new single?
1. After the last album happening in the year 1712, in the time of the plague in Hamburg, we’ve now again gone 200 further years into the past: into the dark times of the holy inquisition. We tell the story of the young healer Aellin. She’s been denunciated by her seemingly thankful patients, who feared the inquisition, because of her healing methods, which nowadays would probably only be called alternative medicine. She got called out for being a witch and lastly was sentenced to death on the pyre.
2. This week a new single was released – “Warriors”, it’s one of the 2 only ballads on the album. This track inhabits the biggest choir we’ve ever recorded! More than 30 supernumeraries were asked to sing the chorus with us on the video-shoot to the single – and they proved to have quite incredible talent! In the clip itself you can see our bass player Manuel, frightening realistically and with great relish, torment his victims in the torture chambers of the “Hamburg Dungeon”.
Any chance we’ll get to see your live show in the US?
First of all we start in Europe in March and will have a short break in July and August. After that we’ll be playing Latin America before we continue the European tour in November. I really hope that we will play at least a couple of shows in the US after that.
What does Dark Beauty mean to you?
Dark Beauty actually means a lot to us and our music. It’s not a mere expression or label put on some people because of the way they dress or the music they listen to. Although this is of course part of it, dark beauty is so much more. It’s a way of life, our way of life – tolerance, individual development, aesthetics and love for each other. We strongly believe that, without these features, a peaceful and good co-existence for all human beings on this tiny, fragile planet isn’t possible and we’re proud that we find these features in so many of our fans out there. That’s what dark beauty means to us.
