Interview Meikee Magnetic
Where were you born and where are you now?
Luis: I’m originally from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, which is a border with Brownsville, Texas. I currently reside in Brownsville, Texas.
Joel: I was born in Texas, and currently residing there as well.
Tell us the origin of this project:
We started in the summer of 2017 inspired by our favorite elements of the 80’s like New Wave, Post-Punk and Cold Wave.
What are your musical weapons of choice when performing live?
L: Guitar, synth, drum machine and vocals.
J: Bass guitar, synth and sing back up vocals when we perform live.
You’ve been busy on the road performing all over the US on a six month tour. Any shows that stand out and why?
L: I think my favorite show so far has been opening for She Past Away in Los Angeles. They’re a band that we’ve been admiring for years and to share the stage with them was an absolute pleasure.
J: To be a little clear, it’s not been a continuous six months. We have small breaks in between shows, but have been grinding as much as we can. I feel the most recent show to really blow my mind was our date at Absolution Fest in Tampa. It was such a wonderful weekend, and for an inaugural festival, they booked an incredible two-day lineup.
Your post-punk / dark wave vibe is infectious and we love it. Any plans or ideas for a new music video?
We are currently setting the framework for a music video for our upcoming album “Ceremony”. We’ve released three singles for it up to this point, so it could be any of those songs. I’ll keep it a secret for now. Hopefully, we can start shooting at the beginning of 2020.
How have audiences been responding to your new album?
We’ve been receiving such positive feedback. We’ve had the opportunity to play a few of the singles at our live shows, and the audiences seem to really enjoy them. Someone was screaming for “Fantasmas” throughout our most recent show in Los Angeles. That kind of excitement over the new material really means a lot to us. Truthfully, we have been a bit anxious on the release of the new album, because of the overwhelming support and love for “Shadows”. We knew going in, it would be tough to follow, but I think we accomplished what we wanted with “Ceremony”. It’s different in so many ways, but still true to the sound that was birthed on the first album.
After the release of “Ceremony” on December 13th, we’ll be heading out on an East Coast tour at the tail end of the month. The planning for our tour for next year has already begun, and really, that’s what we’ll be concentrating on. We’ll have two albums out that we truly believe in, and want to be able to bring the music to as many cities as we can over the next year. CLICK HERE TO PRE-ORDER
