The official music video for DADDY by Ramsey has arrived! Diving into the world of 3D animation, DADDY showcases all that is dark and sexy. Also part of the newest LP “The Art Of Survival”, a collection of dark musical masterpieces that we just can’t get enough of. Dark Beauty had the pleasure of asking Ramsey a series of questions to follow up on all things in her musical universe…
Interview Meikee Magnetic
Your new video is a 3D work of art for the track DADDY, how did you come up with this concept?
I saw my friend, Ms. Vee, do a burlesque act to Daddy when I first made the song. She started the act in full drag with this little red wig and these super tall latex red boots and then at some point she ripped the wig off and transformed into this masculine GOD. Definitely made me cry a little bit it was such an experience and so inspiring. I have also been obsessed with the world that 3D artist and director Jason Ebeyer creates in his art and was honored to have him collaborate with me because I knew that he would get my ideas and he was the perfect person to make the story work. He just asked me a couple questions and then made it live through his fabulous art.
When writing a song, what are the triggers that get the process started for you?
Just about ANYTHING can trigger an idea. I have a notebook and I write everything down that stands out. Sometimes it is a finished piece, other times, it is a work in progress that I revisit when it seems like the right time to do so. That is part of the fun of it all.
Congrats on your new nine song album! We love the haunting sounds and dark trip hop beats you created. Do you feel your creative process has changed?
I don’t think that I have a “process” per se, but if there was a fuel to my process, it would be curiosity. I am just really curious about everything and music allows me to explore emotional places and even physical space, so if anything, the music is the soundtrack to that exploration.
You recently did a special live performance of your new album The Art of Survival November 7th at the Palace Theater in LA. How was that night for you emotionally?
I was writing for the better part of a year and this was the first time on stage in all that time, it was a lot of fun. I live on stage, so I was really excited to get back into performance mode. I am determined to never let so much time pass between shows.
As a music artist what would be the ultimate dream or goal be for you?
I guess I want what any musician wants… I want to keep playing shows and making more music and collaborating with other artists. I just really feel most alive when I am making music and performing, so ultimately, I look forward to doing more of that!
What’s next for you?
I have some live videos that I am releasing through the holidays from our show at the Palace, and I am hoping to do more shows as well as continuing the release of new music.
What does Dark Beauty mean to you now?
Brilliant! A hot fucking mess!
