“We have to talk“ – that sounds like expression, like change and serious business. Because GROOVENOM grew up and discovered a melancholy that they turn into a broader frame musically and deep-thought lyrics in German. Where Pink Lion and Modern Death Pop represent moments in a development, Wir müssen reden“ shows a grown-up band. Musically the core is still electronic Deathcore, catchy and melodic, yet more emotional and serious. Industrial Metal influenced by EBM and Synthwave is the musical basis for a lyrical concept about the loss of the ability to communicate. Especially singer Mr. Sanz made a huge step in his variety and links emotional clean singing parts with angry shouts. Wir müssen reden is a field of force inviting the listener to dive in and overcome tribulations, find new strength and work of steam. THIS IS MODERN DEATH POP!
Interview Meikee Magnetic
Where were you born and where are you now?
I was born and raised in and around the city of Dresden in Saxony, Germany.
How would you describe yourselves as artists and elaborate on the modern death pop sound:
I have a weakness for provocation, satire, like to go beyond boundaries and playing with clichés. Our sound reflects that perfect: it’s based on simple pop songwriting, mixed with dark and extreme elements of Death Metal and Gothic.
What are your plans to promote the new album?
Going on tour and producing cinematic music videos.
You have a unique music video trilogy concept, tell us the idea behind this:
We wanted to create music videos in which the story is the focus and not the performance. The lyrics on the album are very coherent, so we also wanted this story to extend over several music videos. Together, they make a short short movie that we also uploaded on YouTube. It’s about 3 phases of a toxic relationship.
Tell us some highlights about the making of your music video trilogy:
We worked again with the cinematographer Mirko Witzki, who delivered a brilliant result. We shot 3 videos in 3 days, which is really crazy but with good planning and a good team, we still managed it. I directed the movie myself and wrote the script. Our drummer Ronald was the producer. We cast two wonderful actors (Joris Schwarz and Peggy Evers) and rented an old castle. It was all very hectic and difficult, but we had a great time.
Touring, touring, touring…
What does Dark Beauty mean to you?
Perfection is boring. Nobody is flawless. Beauty lies hidden in the dark parts of your soul. Your shadow makes you interesting, even if you hate it yourself.
