Planet Damage is a prominent figure of cyberpunk and industrial subcultures. His work with the community site LD50, his alternative PDF fanzine The Dose or his future research gonzo book Damage Report have introduced industrial music to new crowds locally and internationally. He’s been working as a producer for 4 years, landing four EPs and a number of remixes, he also collaborated with Emke from renowned synth noir band Black Nail Cabaret and he’s been remixed by musicians such as Haujobb, Leaether Strip or Attrition.
The Message: “Humanity’s greatest potential is a greasy burp of couch crisps and a complaint against bad CGI when an actual extraterrestrial invasion goes live on social media. From Trump through Brexit to the Anti-Encryption Bill, we have a long list of indiscernible proofs that unity has never been our race’s biggest forte, definitely not in the globalized post-internet era. The loss of both narrative and context with the added lack of interest and the ability to foresee conclusions is our primal setup for this MMORPG we play on a daily basis. This is what HI REZ LO LIFE is about, both a reminder and a warning.” (Hi Rez Lo Life EP, release inlay)
The Production: “Hi Rez Lo Life” is released on the label Black Pill Red Pill, showcasing the astounding mixing and mastering (and additional producerly) skills of Krisztián Árvai of Black Nail Cabaret. These tracks are as much dancefloor-oriented stompers as gut reactions to all things that shaped social interaction during the past years – and also references to the oldschool cyberpunk slogan “Hi Tech Lo Life”. The music video (as well as photos and artworks related to Hi Rez Lo Life) is the work of visual artist Richard Besenczi (who also shot Planetdamage’s previous MV “Vex”). Glitches, monochrome European music videos of the 80s and 90s and the surveillance culture were three major sources of inspiration. Besenczi was so taken by the anime glasses of Japanese DIY enthusiast @dekantsu that he created his own version that was extensively used in the creation of the music video.
