Interview Meikee Magnetic
You have your 4th and latest album, Transcendence, coming out this month. What can we expect to hear?
Transcendence will feature seven new compositions. For those who are familiar with my previous work, you can expect a lot of growth and a much wider range in production style for my upcoming album. For Transcendence, I wanted to drastically reinvent my production process in order to create something that sounded new to me, and not simply repeat the same methods of production I’ve done in the past. Previously, I focused on the full production of the instrumental tracks first, then recorded the vocals only after the instrumental production was complete. For the new tracks, I started with composing five of the seven structures just on piano. I then recorded completely clean vocals over the piano skeletons to better focus my vocal performance, then determined the optimal production method for each track around the vocal performance. This allowed me to focus on producing each song with its own unique identity within the album. I decided to bring in Robert Dante to contribute to the production for some of the tracks on Transcendence. Dante has previously contributed on some of my released tracks, playing the guitars on “Infatuated” and playing the piano version of “Cry for You”, which I released as “Cry for You (Haunted)”. Dante’s guitars and string arrangements are featured throughout several of the tracks on Transcendence, enriching each track with a warmer and more organic feel than a solely electronic production. I also invited Alex Dalliance of Vulture Culture to contribute by producing the version of “DELIRIUM” that is included on the album. My original production for DELIRIUM will become available some time after the new album’s release.
What is the meaning behind the lyrics for the track ‘DESPAIR’?
I’ve struggled with how to best present the message behind Despair’s lyrics so that the message is clear that the track Despair takes acceptance, rather than a rush to deny or medically suppress negative feelings from our personal experiences, as the starting point for healing. The track Despair invokes feelings of isolation and suffering which, when accepted and acknowledged through genuine self-examination, can then be healed at their source, rather than at the level of the symptom. I believe an imperative of emotional health is to acknowledge your emotions as unique experiences. Experiences forge your own personal growth, even through pain and unpleasantness. Introspection, in order to acknowledge, understand, accept, and finally release your emotions towards healing through awareness. This allows for true spiritual transcendence, versus a negative sinking path of suppression and repression that does not aim to understand the root of personal emotional suffering through genuine heart-searching and self-examination.
Tell us about the production and concept behind your new music video for ‘DESPAIR’?
Directed by Chad Michael Ward, the music video for Despair was filmed last summer in Hollywood, CA. Conjuring imagery of a newly summoned life’s suffering and isolation, the video expresses the feeling that the forces behind our existence and personal sense of conscious awareness are beyond our understanding or control. The unknown forces behind the unfolding of our lives is represented in the video by “The Sorceress” pulling the strings behind the circumstances which have brought “The Girl” into existence. Filled with questions for which the answers seem out of reach, “The Girl” in the music video represents the condition of being born human and the suffering that comes along with the experience of life.

What does Dark Beauty mean to you?
Appreciating the darkness that allows for the manifestation of light. Acknowledging the tragic beauty in the torment that comes along with the struggle to find balance within the chaos of life. Growing from your experiences, even when the tides of time throw you into spells of turmoil, sadness and despair. Transcending beyond our own limitations to truly find our center and sense of tranquility, even through hardships and the intense experience of our own existence. I am grateful for having been asked to do this interview for Dark Beauty Magazine, thank you for the opportunity to present my latest work!
