Dizkodeath is an extremely talented artist to emerge from the German underground’s new generation. His first endeavors with music started at the age of 10, when he started playing the guitar and drums. By the age of 16 piano had already been added to this music thirsty youngster’s skill set, until he eventually fell in love with electronic music at the age of 19. Inspired by artists such as Justice and The Bloody Beetroots and after having experimented with various sub genres of electro for a few years, he brings together all his music influences by creating hard electro bangers, catchy disco dance tracks and guitar driven electro punk with 80’s atmosphere and dark melodic sounds.
Interview Meikee Magnetic
Where were you born and where are you now?
I was born in a small Western Germany town and now live in Oberhausen (Ruhr Area) Germany.
Tell us about your early years when you discovered your musical gift:
When I was a kid I loved playing on my dad’s guitar and listening to his music LP’s. He bought an electric guitar but he couldn’t play anything on it so it just stood there until I started playing on it and learning how to do it properly.
What is the strongest music scene there in your opinion?
That’s a hard question. I listen to a lot of different music genres and each has its own special feeling to me so I don’t compare genres or scenes.
Your inspired by Justice and The Bloody Beetroots, two of our favorites. What is it about this sound and genre that you love?
It was that sound clash of hard guitar driven sound with dance beats that caught me. All those different sounds from disco over rave and electro to headbanging metal just made love it at first sight (well, listen).
Electro Disco Punk has an edgy sound that you do very well, yet there’s an 80’s vibe to it as well. Which decades made more of an impact on you?
I love this 80s vibe. I grew up listening to all kinds of music in the early 90s and the 80s sound had definitely a big influence in my music taste and style.
Could you tell us some of the synthesizers and plugins your using in your productions?
As I’m working with Propellerheads Reason I don’t use any plug ins. I mostly use the built in stuff or my own live instruments. Mostly I use the built in synths in Reason and create my own sounds from scratch or I use one of my cheap no name synths or organs, run it through some guitar pedals or outboard effects and that’s it.
What else do you do besides music? Hobbies? Interests?
Besides being a father and going to work I spend most of my time making music, whether it’s Dizkodeath or my Powerviolence grind band or just for fun.
Have you ever been to America?
Unfortunately not yet but I hope I will someday.
Where would you like to play in the United States?
Well, the big cities of course. No, actually I don’t mind where as long as it’s not a kkk festival or some shit like that.
My future plans are finishing all the music I recorded over the last 2 years and finally release it. My PC crashed more than a year ago and that pushed me back and I wasn’t able to work on anything for a very long time. So my main plan is to finish all that stuff that had to wait.
What does Dark Beauty mean to you?
Besides that cool publication I was interviewed on once? Pure, non-pretentious and not watered down beauty that’s coming straight from the heart. Or some super expensive and super delicious dark Swiss chocolate I suppose (lol).
