Ash Code is the moniker for the meeting of Alessandro’s sensitivity and Claudia’s taste. Their music describes a collage of dark wave, noise and electronic music with a solid drum machine. Dark ballads and obsessive beats, deep and melancholic synths, noise and distortions, arpeggiators and delays. Lights and shades. Dances of Death. Visions and theatricality. Coded ash.
Interview Meikee Magnetic
Where were you born and where are you now?
Claudia: We were born In Napoli and we still live here. The time we spent in Berlin (2013-2014) was very important to this project.
Tell us the story about the birth of this project:
Alessandro: The project was born in early 2014. I had some demo tracks and couldn’t finish them so Claudia helped me with the synths and vocal melodies. We uploaded the songs on Soundcloud and the result was amazing. Many DJs from all over Europe started writing us asking for the tracks. So we understood the band worked and my brother joined us.
I’ve interviewed a music group lead by twins once before. Alessandro and Adriano could you enlighten our readers about the special connection you both have:
Adriano: Surely between twins there is a special bond, growing in close contact with another person, sharing everything, making you feel less alone. We don’t need so many words among us because we understand each other immediately, but in spite of this we also have great differences in our character. About the music, we’ve play together since childhood and have always shared this great passion.
How does this connection work with the project?
Alessandro: It’s very important in a band that each component is tuned perfectly with the others. In this case it’s a very easy thing, together we are concerned especially about the band’s managerial aspect and logistics issues. The composing part is mainly performed by Claudia and I.
All 3 of you have a well balanced dark synergy, how does this come across on stage?
Alessandro: Onstage we are at ease always giving our best, even when we’re tired or not too sure about the way the sound is coming out of the P.A. Our attitude in any case depends on our musical influences.
Claudia, what keyboard gear are you performing live with?
We usually fly when we travel, it’d be impossible to carry the analog/digital synths we use in studio. Onstage we mainly use samplers to get the same sound of the LP’s. The Korg Microsampler is a very good machine to do this dirty job.
Could you explain to us some of the song content such as lyrics and song topic?
Alessandro: Our songs talk about different topics. Oblivion and Posthuman, the title-tracks of the two albums refer to 2 concepts. The first one talks about the active oblivion, as a way out of situations of depression caused by the past, and Posthuman, talks about the contemporary era, where the world is totally different compared to the past. Where man is no longer at the center of the universe and he must reformulate new ethical principles. Anyway there are songs that talk about private experiences and interpersonal relationships too.
Which song do you believe is your greatest piece of work?
Adriano: Each of us has his favorite song but it must be for the public to decide. Our most acclaimed song is our first single “Dry Your Eyes”.
What has been the highlight of the bands career so far?
Claudia: We love to play live, during the years we had incredible experiences playing in front of a lot of people. We often share the stage with the bands we like the most. I think the Wave Gotik Treffen in 2015 was one of the best. We were the first band to play that day and the venue was already full at 16:30 in the afternoon.

Alessandro: We’re making a new record with no deadlines and booking some summer festivals. Two months ago we did a South American tour, it’s our desire to make an American tour as well. As you can imagine it’s not easy and we must find the right people to work with.
What does Dark Beauty mean to you?
Claudia: We are very much attracted to the dark culture and what it all entails. What concerns this world such as music, elegance in the way of being, an existentialist philosophy, clubs full of smoke and people dressed in black. All the symbolism behind it is beauty and for us this is Dark Beauty.
