The recent incarnation of GHOST came to an end on the night of September 30th 2017 when front man Papa Emeritus III was forcibly removed from the stage in Sweden and a NEW Papa introduced himself. This new Unholiness Papa Emeritus 0 incarnation appeared old and frail with an oxygen machine in tow. His message to the crowd: “I am Papa Emeritus Zero. The party is over and now a new era begins. The Middle Ages begin now.” The new costume was designed by our favorites Majesty Black and Bea Akerlund. Dark Beauty spoke to them both gaining some special info on this golden new spooky look.
Interview Meikee Magnetic
Congrats on designing Ghost’s latest front man Papa 0’s new costume. How did this collaboration come to life?
Majesty Black: Well, Bea Akerlund, celebrity stylist and costume designer had been asking me if I was available to work on the project. She had just landed back from Sweden and I had just flown from styling a music video in Greece and landed to Bali when I agreed. This would give us roughly 3 and a half weeks to design, create and produce the entire look. Who could say no to a costume job like that? I love the music, costumes and performance aspect of the Band Ghost. I was familiar with Ghost as Bea had asked for gloves for them before. We created a custom Nail Glove for Papa Emeritus III with prosthetic finger extensions to make his fingers longer. They were adorned with Raw hand sanded Antique Brass implanted Metal Nails.
Tell us about your meeting with Ghost, Tobias Forge and the new Papa0 costume:
Bea Akerlund: This is my second time working with Ghost, I created the last Papa costume for the last album so to have them ask me back was nice. Being that we are both Swedish and friends it definitely makes the process easier. His ideas are precise and specific, I love working with people like that. I think during the creative process we both had the same vision so seeing it all come to life is always a treat. Papa Emeritus III wearing Majesty Black nail gloves above and in video below.
How was your experience working with Majesty Black creating the costume?
Bea Akerlund: I love Majesty Black and we have also done many projects together before, so I knew they would be the perfect match to execute this costume and understand the esthetic of the band.
