Tears For Grace is a dark moody project with haunting and strong song writing. It tickles you with 80’s nostalgia as you turn that dark radio dial, let’s tune it…
Interview Meikee Magnetic
Where were you born and where are you now?
My name is Shaun Bivens from the band “TEARS FOR GRACE” and I’m from Oakland California. I now reside in Menlo Park Ca.
What are your influences for this project?
The influences are anything from David Bowie to the Psychedelic Furs to Echo and The Bunnymen to PRINCE.
You are the producer performing, editing and singing all parts, very impressive. What tools are you using in your studio and tell us about your production process:
I’m the producer – singer – songwriter and I played all the stuff on the record. I still use the old analogue gear from the 80s, like the Juno 106 and the Matrix 1000. The production process starts with guitar most of the time, but it happens with keys as well.
Your video ‘No Sweet Lullabies’ has a nice authenticity to it, you meld clips from the classic horror film ‘CANDYMAN’ which creates a nice story line. What inspired you to go this route combining the film with your song?
The film Candyman was the inspiration behind the song ‘NO SWEET LULLABIES’, that movie freaked me out! I guess I just love scary movies.
The dual guitar work is brilliant as well as the 80’s atmospheric synths, along with enchanting vocals. What was your feeling at the time while writing the song and laying down parts?
Most of the record is very synth pop so I wanted to do something darker and more moody. I was going through some dark and moody times.
Do you have your eye on any venues or events to perform live in San Francisco?
I would love to do Turbo Drive at DNA Lounge in SF, I think it would be a great fit.
What does Dark Beauty mean to you?
DARK BEAUTY is a nice break from the norm that we must all suffer through on a daily basis. It’s perfect in that way, plus I feel I’m a dark beauty as well! Thanks for the love, this project took along time to complete and it is close to my heart. I’m so grateful you took notice.
