The DNA Lounge has been my music home since I was 16 so this is EXTREMELY personal on all levels. I played my 1st live show there at 17 and to this day I have the honor of being a resident DJ at the legendary BootieSF event for 5 years. It’s given myself and countless artists a home to debut their talents and creativity. A place for outcasts to have an outlet to hear music, dance, find love and feel a part of something bigger than themselves. I can’t stress enough how special this venue is and how many huge artists have performed there including PRINCE! We must do everything in our power to help keep DNA alive!!!
2016 is just continuing it’s ass-kicking, but that doesn’t mean 2017 has to follow the same path. The DNA LOUNGE and Codeword just needs 800 more bodies through the door each week to keep going (although more would be lovely) – either supporting existing parties, or as part of new ones. Got ideas? Talk to them. Want to throw a party but think it will only pull 200 people? They have a space that will fit it. In charge of finding a venue for your corporate party? They have plenty of room to fit any configuration you need.
The most important take-away? Getting more people to show up is the most important thing to keep the DNA LOUNGE going – and to keep the events that happen there going. The magic of BootieSF, Hubba Hubba Revue, Death Guild and all the other great parties won’t keep happening unless people attend them. www.dnalounge.com
“I really don’t want to have to close DNA Lounge. We have done some great things here. Not me, we. The umbrella of DNA is host to countless vibrant communities and thousands of regulars. We’ve had fifteen years of the most diverse, weird, interesting calendar of any venue I’ve ever seen. A typical month here doesn’t include just bands and DJs, but comedy, lecture series, circuses, robotic exhibitions, dance performances, hair shows… We provide a home for a whole lot of truly amazing art. I’m so proud of everyone. I’m immensely grateful to our staff for making it happen. There are always the obvious things you can do: Attend our events. Buy tickets. Buy drinks. Buy pizza. Bring your friends. Get them to bring their friends.” ~ Jamie Zawinski (DNA owner)

“The closing of the DNA Lounge would be a major blow to weirdo culture in San Francisco. From burlesque shows to last minute Prince concerts to hosting the longest running Goth night in the country, DNA Lounge has always been a place that celebrated San Francisco’s weirdness and gave it a venue in which to strut about. Simply people watching at the DNA Lounge’s next door pizza joint during Death Guild on Monday nights, gave me hope that there was still a lot of freaky-deaky lying under the skin somewhere in San Francisco.” ~ Broke-Ass Stuart
