Dark Beauty Music got the exclusive behind the scenes on Steve Aoki’s NEW music video “Neon Future” featuring Luke Steele (Empire Of The Sun) with director Mike Harris and makeup artist Daniela Grasso. “A world of frozen opulence… an elite class of people reside in suspended animation… Meanwhile, a grim reality coexists, one of chains and steam, indescribable heat. One day, a hero among them emerges. Dawning a mechanical suit, he becomes the leader they need, leading them from their inferno into paradise. The worlds collide… the sleepers wake… the Neon Future is upon us.”

Tell us about the video shoot location and why it was chosen:
Director Mike Harris: The location needed to feel baroque and sacred. We had been searching for a location for weeks and were starting to lose hope. Our art department suggested an old mausoleum near Pasadena. I took one step in that cemetery and knew we had found our spot, sight unseen. Dead people are good luck.
What was your artistic direction for the looks you did for Luke Steele?
Director Mike Harris: Luke showed up wearing wrap-around glaucoma sunglasses and a gigantic crucifix. He asked me about his characterization. I told him he was Dracula. Watching him move through that space was really special. He brought tears to my eyes and shivers to my spine.
What stylist was used for Steve Aoki and Luke Steele?
Director Mike Harris: The stylist was Justin Lynn.
Who were the designers you chose for this project?
Director Mike Harris: Luke is wearing suit by Resurrection by Jyl and Steve is wearing a Laurel Dewitt Chain top and Resurrection by Jyl Leather Pants.
How did you start working with Steve Aoki?
Daniela Grasso: I started working with him thanks to my husband cinematographer Aaron Grasso, who started working with producers Josh Shadid and Max Riesberg by shooting Singularity 2 years ago.
You’ve worked on a few Steve Aoki video’s, which were they?
Daniela Grasso: I have worked on almost all the videos since Singularity and they have all been so much fun to be part of! But I have to say makeup wise this might be my favorite!
What does Dark Beauty mean to you?
Daniela Grasso: I see the photo of model Abbie Roberts from the music video and all I can think of is Dark beauty queen! It’s a mixture of darkness, mystery, style, fashion, elegance and beauty!
