Interview Meikee Magnetic
I see you are a musical alien, where were you born?
In a galaxy very, very far away…
Can you give our readers your definition of FUTURE PUNK?
A movement, a style, a sound, futuristic beats glam pop that explode your heart. Uniting the digital in our analogue soul.
I sense a rebel in you, how does that translate into your music and stage performance?
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Note to self: please stop jumping off of high objects. Sometimes I forget to put on my wings when I fly. I’m uninhibited by the judgment and proper behavioral standards. I’m loud and lewd with raw power, FUTURE PUNK!
I heard you caught the eye of legendary Rocker Joan Jett, what was that experience like for you?
Pretty freakin’ amazing yo! It was a rare honor that I will treasure for life. She really paved the way for a lot of strong female front women. Her and Patti Smith are the mothers of riot girl I feel!
What are some of your favorite musical gadgets?
My fingers and the noise in my head. Don’t laugh… Garageband, it’s great to make demos on. I also love using Massive and FM8.
I love how BOLD your fashion is, you mentioned you have a personal designer Ernie Omega. Can you tell us a little bit about him and your exquisite collaborations?
Ernie Omega is also from the future. We collaborate robot, neon, fun, sex star glitter, metal and android sensations.
You seem to have all the best classic elements Iggy Pop, Ziggy (Bowie), T-Rex etc… If you had a chance for one of your idols to join you onstage to perform with you who would you choose and why?
I am the anal love child of David Bowie and Iggy Pop, either or.
I really enjoyed your single and video “KIDS ITZ KINETIC”! Can you go into the meaning of the song and what inspired you to write it?
In this world of so much darkness and war I want be part of the light. I think sometimes we can feel hopeless like our planet has gone off into an abyss of greed and destruction. It’s so easy to think of all the sadness, corporate death machines and pretty things made in brutalizing factories. All of us are drugged by the immediate quick fix neon next new thing to distract us from the reality of where we are at. What do we do? How can we save the world when we are all contributing to its descent? Amidst all of this there is still the commonality we all share, this hope, this beauty, this fire inside to keep going, to survive, to overcome and to transform. I believe music is a common language therefore we have to have hope.
TOKYO! We have a bond, we both lived and performed there. Our readers would LOVE to hear about your adventures there, please go into detail for us:
Ikareteru yo! My partner and I in art crime Hiro Super did crazy street shows with a boombox, wireless mic and a guitar. We made wild performance art, “Sub:way Of Samurai” is a video you can watch if your curious where we rein-act a famous samurai fight in the subways of Tokyo. An electric fantastic dream-scape of dancing on the last train home. Exhaustion in the florescent’s, Tokyo has eaten half of my heart.
Dance music has taken off and taken over in some ways. I noticed under your influences you listed Electro-House. Can we expect some Kate Crash Dance remixes and who would be a few of your dream EDM Remix/Producers?
Ahhhh sookie sookie indeed! My music is gonna make you dance! “Kids Itz Kinetic” has Noah Issa and Joshua David doing super awesome remixes. Yes I’m in the studio with my dream team and yes soon u will hear more!
Equal parts performance artist, pop singer and fashion muse. Is there a part that rules over all or are they in complete harmony?
Whether it be visual, emotional, physical or sonic I suppose everything stems from mixing conceptual art with the insane driving emotional rocket. It forces me to create for a little understanding in such a mad hatter race. Maybe when you strip me down I’m just a poet. My poetry is the most intimate part of my body.
What’s next for Kate Crash?
Launching the future!
What does Dark Beauty mean to you?
Societal beauty expectation can be a drug. Dark Beauty is taking it back and redefining what is beautiful to you whether creepy, truthful or big. It’s all poetic and pure self expression.
