Spring is the time of renewal, rejuvenation, and rebirth. I associate spring with the Suit of Cups in the Tarot deck, with its spiritual waters flowing through us to revive our hibernating psychic selves. With springtime comes blooming flowers and cherry blossoms, providing us the color that’s been scarce throughout the cold winter months. Just as dreary, gloomy weather has a direct physical and emotional effect on us, so it is with spring, bringing us a burst of creative energy.
Color, beauty, and magic surround us. It floats on currents of air, it flows through us. Just as the beauty that exists all around us goes greatly unnoticed much of the time, as we scurry about with very important things to do, so does Magik. We ourselves are magical creatures, though most of us are so far removed from our natural connection with plants, trees, animals, and the earth itself, that we don‘t realize it. Our ancestors worshiped the elements and the four corners, had many gods, and practiced the art of magik on a daily basis. We practice the art of texting while steering with our knees.
No matter how civilized we become, or how agnostic and anti-religious, we all have our own set of rituals that make us feel better and/or secure. I was raised in a Southern Baptist household (not my cup of tea) and have been fortunate to have been exposed to a few different religions. I love Judaism, and was literally one class away from converting at one time, with all of its ancient traditions and rituals. Leonard Nimoy, who is famous for his role as Spock in the original Star Trek television series and movie franchise, based a lot of Spock’s Vulcan characteristics and mannerisms on Orthodox Jewish beliefs and rituals. And so it is with those who practice Color Magik. We have the knowledge that there is power in ritual, based on the principle that every action causes an equal or greater reaction.
Color Magik is simple, and it’s fun! Using a colored candle for this purpose is the most popular form of Color Magik. Choose a candle with the corresponding color for what you desire. Green for money and success, pink for happiness and love, blue for peace and healing, red for energy or lust, purple for power and psychic abilities, and so on. Light your candle and while gazing into the flame, concentrate on what you want for 10 to 20 minutes. The more elaborate you make your ritual, or spell, the more power you give it. For instance, you could write your desire on a piece of paper and burn it with the flame of the candle, or you could surround the candle with crystals, or even wave your hands around the candle while chanting a spell. What ever you choose to do, make this time yours. To get what we want, we must actively go for it! So, get out there and make your dreams come true. And remember–you are Magik!
