Jean Paul Gaultier, Mastering the Craft with Construction

Taking a risk and designing from the heart is the most important for any wannabe designer in the world. Being a designer by passion for fashion myself, I am critical with my work and have such high expectations as I have been inspired by the greats of fashion from our lifetime, Vivian Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Thierry Mugler, and of course Jean Paul Gaultier. Recently the “Jean Paul Gaultier from the Sidewalk to the Runway” exhibit at the de Young Museum in San Francisco featured his body of work. Louboutin of A Different Era

While the gawk and flaunt over the latest Louboutin’s continue, let’s look at some of the exciting ‘new’ designs from another French designer, Steven Arpad. A relatively unknown in the late 1930s, but whose creativity, unique and unusual designs has shown to stand the test of time. Any women with expensive tastes, but also loved experimental designs would love his creations. His works are archived at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. His capacity for visual experimentation has brought him enduring respect within the industry. His advertising clients include Chanel, Cartier, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Hermès, Armani, Louis Vuitton, H&M and Yves Saint Laurent. Sundsbø has also created editorials for Italian Vogue, Love Magazine, Visionaire, V, Interview, i-D, The New York Times, Vogue Nippon, and W Magazine. From money to posters, diaries to letters, paper-towels to facial tissues, the use of paper seems endless. That is until someone asks you to entertain the idea of dresses made out of paper. And that’s exactly why the work of countess Isabelle de Borchgrave of Brussels, Belgium is so astonishingly beautiful.
