Interview Meikee Magnetic
Where were you born and where are you now?
I was born in East London and currently still live in East London (Stratford).
Not only are you a 27 year London MC and Rapper, you are also a strong female presence in the music industry. What is your ultimate goal you wish to achieve with your music?
For me I just really love performing and seeing people enjoying the music, that really gives me a huge buzz. Being able to see people having a great time is in itself a great achievement.
You mention your sound is like “Rage against the Machine meets Andre 3000”, we love that. Where do your think you found your passion for music and performing?
Thank You, I’ve been a rapper since I was a teenager so my passion initially grew from MC’ing with friends on the streets when we used to ‘play out’ I’ve always really just loved music and it’s something that offers me a release from the stresses that comes with life. Music makes me smile.
Tell us about your new single:
It’s got hard hitting sounds from the music which I feel are quite different to what most rappers are currently bringing and will give listeners something new and interesting to listen to.
What other songs will be on your new EP?
I have a song called ‘Cemented’ which is a hard hitting hip hop vibe, a song called ‘We Don’t Wanna Talk’ which is featuring vocalist Kestra, she delivers some awesome vocals which lift the track and give it a credible commercial edge. There is also a freestyle called ‘It’s Over’ which is focused entirely on lyrics. This was an opportunity for me to let loose and really have fun with a different vibe.
I read you performed with Maxim from The Prodigy for his DJ sets across Europe and the US. That sounds like an amazing gig! Tell us some highlights during this time:
The highlight for me was having the opportunity to travel and see new places. Also performing to wider and bigger audiences was so much fun.
Tell us your experience during Macy Gray’s party at Groucho:
It was good fun, I’d never been to Groucho before so it was nice to go and experience it.
What are your favorite pieces of fashion that you own?
I love unique jewelry and have a few really cool pieces designed by BR Republic. I’d say they were my favorite things for sure.
What are a few London hotspots for our readers to know about?
I really like the Shochu Lounge at Roka, Charlotte street. It’s a cool restaurant but has a very casual vibe with dim lights and sofas. The black cod is awwsome!
I have so many foods that I love but at the moment I have a thing for Thai food.
What music are you listening to now?
Kendrick Lemar, he is someone I’m really loving at the moment.
What do you have coming up?
I’ve been recording lots in the studio so certainly more releases to come. Check out my Instagram @ciannablaze also my website (below) for more music and up and coming projects.
What does Dark Beauty mean to you?
Things that aren’t seen as beautiful, are. The Media tells us what beautiful is but it’s the things that aren’t seen as beautiful that are. For example show white, seen as good and the witches are always wearing black. Darkness is usually seen as not beautiful.
