There are moments in ones life journey that they run into products that speak to them. I was recently at the largest Halloween and horror trade show in St. Louis Transworld. I walked up upon a booth I immediately fell head over heals in love with, all I could do was think to myself, “TAKE ALL MY MONEY!” I am a hard one to please and this was the only booth I actually bought something at this year.
The Gemini Company, Inc. is a visual arts studio that specializes in sideshow replicas and dark novelties. Each product they create has this amazing nostalgic feeling of old world British safari adventures many of us remember from black and white Tarzan films. New Jersey creators John Weisgerber and Elizabeth Geddes-Weisgerber must have been traveling though time to be this keen on building these magical reproductions of osseous deformity items.
Walking up to this booth you are greeted with a life-size skeleton of the Elephant Man. It’s like you were transported back in time and are at a sideshow. As you listen to an old time barker telling you about the strange, and weird things you will see as you walk through that point of no return behind the red and white striped canvas opening.
The Gemini Company is so brilliant, the quality of craftsmanship and work screams buy me, the products feel authentic and classic. I feel like I want to build a tiki room dedicated to their work along with speciality rum concoctions, listening to old safari stories from the past on a gramophone. It’s in that moment when you are holding your own “Unlucky monkeys foot” that looks and feels so real, it gives you the hibigeebies of pleasure and intrigue.
I happily walked away with the biggest smile on my face, proudly holding a miniature shrunken head, tee-shirt, and my unlucky monkeys foot. With my eyes on one of my favorite items (Money puppet) I looked back thinking; well, I think the world needs to know about these guys and their brilliance. Check them out though Facebook, or online. Maybe you will find these dusty treasures a home in your own freak show display.
Thank you for creating the magic you do! I hope to see more freak show magic coming from these guys!
